Attendance
It is very important that students attend school. Missing 2 days a month is equivalent to missing 10% of the school year. Each month, we will be recognizing students who miss no more than 1 day of school for that month. I cannot express enough how important it is for our students to attend school.
Kids should stay home if:
1. contagious (including strep throat)
2. a temperature over 100
3. feel yucky
4. doctor advises
Kids could (and should) come to school if:
1. not contagious
2. Temperature is 100 or under
3. just has a sniffle or small cold
4. feel fine overall.

Contacting the Principal – Email is Best
As you are aware, I am a member of this community and my own children attend Chaparral. Many of you may know me personally, however, if you have questions, comments, or concerns regarding your student, please email me at ngoldstein@lvusd.org. Please do not text or call my personal cell phone. District policy does allow 24 hours for us to reply but I am very prompt about answering emails. If you would like to meet with me in person, please call the office at (818) 591-2428 or email Ms. Welti (welti@lvusd.org) and she will schedule an appointment. If you need to communicate with your teacher, email is also best, and they will respond within 24 hours. I thank you in advance for keeping our personal and professional lives separate.

Wizard of Oz Performing Arts Program
At The Performing Arts Collective, we offer a range of specialized performing arts classes that are Covid friendly. We believe in progress over perfection and find creative ways to have fun while learning! Our social method introduces children to musical theatre through dancing, singing, and acting, all while keeping a safe physical distance. Each lesson gives kids a chance to connect with friends while being physically active and exercising skills in public speaking, music, dance, and character building.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Reminders
Please remember our campus is open at 7:45. Students should not be left unattended until 7:40 when we have staff members to watch your child. For safety, it is very important that no child is left alone waiting for the gates to open prior to 7:40am.
Please do not allow your children to climb on the hills/fences adjacent to our school. These areas are off limits as they are unsafe. There may be plants and items on the hills that can harm your children. Also with the rain, it is very slippery and can cause serious injury.
When you are in the traffic line, it is very important that you move all the way up to keep the flow of traffic moving. Similar to a theme park,, when you get to the front of the line, you listen to a staff member to filter into lanes (you do not get to choose your lane). It is ok for students to walk an extra 10 feet to get to their destination. In fact, it promotes a healthy lifestyle!
Please leave your furry friends at home when dropping off or picking up your students. Even the most friendly dogs could get excited and potentially harm a person or another pet.
