PFC Co-Presidents Final Message

PFC Co-Presidents Final Message

Dear Chaparral Families,

What. A. Year! As you read the final Cub Corner for the 2021-2022 school year, we want to take this opportunity to reflect on how much we have done together. It was wonderful to return to a more “normal” way of life at our beloved Chaparral! We were able to celebrate Arbor Day, have the new security gates put up, brought back Running Cubs on our new PFC funded track, played on a new PFC funded playground, and we ended the year with an incredible Variety Show! Thank you, our Chaparral community of parents, our PFC Executive Board and Committee Chairs, and our incredible teachers and staff who always work together to make sure our students are thriving!

We cannot sign off for the summer vacation without a heartfelt message of thanks to Mrs. Brazell for her nine years here at Chaparral! Her dedication and leadership helped guide our community and students during these past few difficult years. She has been an incredible advocate for our children. We truly thank her for everything she has done for Chaparral!

We thank you all for creating such a wonderful community at Chaparral. Have a safe and restful summer. We cannot wait to see what next year has in store!

With Gratitude,

Julie Berkus and Lindsay Vaisman

Principal’s End of Year & Retirement Message

Principal’s End of Year & Retirement Message

Today’s morning assembly was an experience I will never forget. I want to thank our many P.F.C. leadership and volunteers, our teachers, and our staff for their hard work in putting everything together. The assembly was perfect! You are all amazing. I want to thank our Teachers in Charge, Kelly Lampert, Claudine Mullenaux, our Office Manager Donna Welti, and our Co-Presidents, Julie Berkus and Lindsay Vaisman. They are the glue that supports us in doing our work each day. I also want to thank our music teacher, Mr. Michael Siegel, for teaching our students the beautiful song “In My Life” by The Beatles. Also, a special thanks to Ms. Gabrielle Harradine and Alicia Bueschen, our art teachers, classroom teachers, staff, and volunteers for supporting all our students and buddies in creating the beautiful quilt. It will always be a memory I will cherish.

At the assembly this morning, the following was my message to everyone. It has been my true privilege to serve as principal of Chaparral Elementary for the past nine years. I can honestly say that my time here has been full of blessings. These past nine years have been the best of my educational journey. To finish my career at Chaparral is an honor, and I will forever be grateful for that.

Together, we have grown immensely, built deep relationships, and learned alongside each other as students, teachers, staff, parents, and community partners. As C.U.B.S., I am most proud of our belief in remaining lifelong learners, using mistakes to model the learning process, and working alongside a unified community that uses the collaborative process where all students are the center and focus of all decision-making.

When people hear about Chaparral, the reputation is full of strength, care, innovation, and community spirit. Go C.U.B.S.!

To our Mayor of Calabasas, Mary Sue Mauer, Councilmembers, our L.V.U.S.D. School Board President, Vice President, board members, our Superintendent Dr. Stepenosky, fellow principals, and the many school district cabinet members. I am overwhelmed, and I can’t thank you enough for your patience, for tirelessly working to meet the needs of our school, and for your unwavering support.

Parents, Teachers, and Staff, your dedication never ceases to amaze me as you tirelessly work and volunteer for our C.U.B.S. It has been my pleasure working with you over the years. Thank you for sticking with each other through all of the struggles. Through those times, we still made great memories. There are many I cherish, and they will never be erased from my memory. I am moving on, but the shared Chaparral mission and vision will remain strong. I will forever be proud of the work we have done together.

Students, as part of our Chaparral unified team, we want you to remember how important you are to your friends, family, and our community. With a strong belief in yourself, I know you will be happy and make a difference in this world.

As I step out of this role, I will take Chaparral’s C.U.B. spirit with me. I will close with what I often say to our students. “Have a wonderful day and remember, the number one thing good students do is “never give up!”

With Love and Gratitude,
Stephanie Brazell
Principal

Have You Seen Our New Playground?

Have You Seen Our New Playground?

Chaparral PFC is so excited to announce our new playground has been installed and is already being used by our students! As seen in the pictures, this playground includes multiple climbing options, slides, monkey bars and numerous ways to have fun! Located on our lower level, this playground will be used by all grade levels throughout the year and was made possible by donation to our PFC Donor Drive! Your generous donations allow for campus improvements that directly impact the Chaparral CUBS!! A special thank you to our CUBS Committee for overseeing this project: Grace FisherFelice Becker, and Stacy Dishlip. We are so excited to see the students enjoy the playground equipment for years to come!

Kindness Challenge Week Success

Kindness Challenge Week Success

We had an incredible Kindness Challenge Week. The participation by students and staff with the Spirit Challenges was epic. So many of our classes had 100% participation. Students worked hard to spread kindness all over school. Our library now has many kindness bookmarks made for use in the library by all students.  I have included pictures in this message. We finished the week with an assembly after our fire drill where we shared the Kindness Chain we put together schoolwide. Each link on the chain contains a special message of hope, love, and kindness. It is a beautiful reminder that we are truly connected. We will be posting our “Kindness Unites” chain in the library as a great reminder of the power of kindness. Kindness has the power to unite us all!  Go C.U.B.S!

Plan a FUTURE Auction Party for Chaparral!!

The 2022 Chaparral PFC Online Auction is only a few weeks away! This is our second biggest fundraiser and in 2019 hosted parties brought in over $20,000!

A hosted party is an event planned by a group of Chaparral parents. The details; theme, date, and number of attendees are up to you! Parties can be for kids or adults. Popular themes for kids are swimming, bowling, game truck, beach and park playdates. Popular themes for adults are Mom or Dads nights out and Parent theme parties. We are hopeful that by the time we can have these parties they can be in person (depending on the safety guidelines at the time of the parties). See and fill out Auction Party Form HERE.

Start planning now and e-mail your party details, by February 4th to chapauction@gmail.com

Motor4Toys Success!

Motor4Toys Success!

Huge Thank You to Jodi Dalyai and Margaret Scarborough Greer for organizing Chaparral’s Annual Toy Drive with Motor4Toys! It was a HUGE success. The donation of toys was our largest one yet. We were told by the organizer, Mr. Dustin Troyan, and the Chevrolet Car Club that they were bringing the toys to an underprivileged community that very day. Great job CUBS!
