  1. What is the Chaparral PFC Variety Show?

The Chaparral PFC Variety Show is one of Chaparral’s oldest traditions.  Both a community-building and fundraising event, Variety Show is a chance for students in all grades to perform live in front of their family, friends and school community.  The show usually draws participation from over 200 Chaparral students and has two nights of performances for audiences of over 600 people.

The children are generally grouped by grade, and each group is led by parent volunteers who create and teach a musical act/dance to the children at weekly practices (scheduled by the group leaders and generally conducted in someone’s backyard) that run February through May.   Additionally, the show highlights 5th graders through the opening/closing numbers as well as “mini-skits” or videos between musical acts.  Therefore, 5th graders have one additional practice per week (Wednesdays after school in MPR) focusing on these parts of the show.

Participating in the show requires a commitment from both the children and the parents.  There are 2 performances at Calabasas High School as well as two mandatory on-stage rehearsals the week of the show.  Children must be able to attend the weekly practices.  Also, each family contributes a volunteer shift during the show weekend (such as ticket taking, running an activity in the holding room, selling refreshments, etc.), which is necessary to make the show run smoothly. The show is run entirely by parent volunteers. All proceeds from the show go directly to the Chaparral PFC.
